Celebrities Supporting Adoption

Last month, actress Cate Blanchett and her husband decided to complete their family of six through adoption. The family adopted Edith Vivian Patricia in the United States. With three biological sons (Dashiel, Roman and Ignatius), Edith is the perfect addition. When asked about the adoption, Blanchett eloquently replied,

“There’s a lot of children out there that don’t have the good fortune of our biological children so it’s lovely to welcome a little girl. We’re besotted.”

It turns out, Blanchett and her husband are not alone. Many celebrities choose to build their families through adoption. Here are some examples along with quotes of their individual experiences:

Hugh Jackman

“Adoption is about taking a baby into your home — and your heart. It’s the best thing we’ve ever done.”

Meg Ryan

“I just saw that face and I knew we were just related. It taught me a lot about any expectations you have in life. Just toss them away. Throw them out.”

Sandra Bullock

“He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him any other way. It’s like he’s always been a part of our lives.”

Katherine Heigl

“Anyone who doesn’t have experience with adoption wonders, ‘Does love for a child come through DNA?’ I knew that it didn’t….Adoption has been a part of my life and a part of my family, so it was how I wanted to start. It felt natural and right to me.

Angelina Jolie

“I’m drawn to kids that are already born. I think some people are meant to do certain things, and I believe I’m meant to find my children in the world somewhere and not necessarily have them genetically.”

Kristin Davis

“This is something I have wanted for a very long time. Having this wish come true is even more gratifying than I ever had imagined. I feel so blessed.”

If nothing else, we hope this post inspires you to realize the incredible impact that adoption has on all different types of families. Adoption touches the lives of so many. In fact, almost two-thirds of all Americans have a family member or a close friend who was adopted, has adopted, or has placed a child for adoption.
